Paris, France. March 2008.
I was attracted to this building because of the construction going on — I thought the contrast between the old and majestic structure and the modern construction equipment was interesting. I also wanted to capture all the people at the bottom of the shot to give the building a sense of place in a modern city.

This is a great photo, I agree it’s always interesting to see how such old buildings fit into a growing and modern city. I definitely think there’s a place for our heritage, some of the best architecture is hundreds of years old.
